Can only a large and imposing sculpture convey a relevant meaning?
My first Souvenirs were created after a long research, during the 2020 pandemic. It aimed to sharpen our perception towards everyday objects that we often ignore and to include these objects in creative and sculptural processes. The first series Souvenirs.01 was documented photographically, dismantled and now exists as a photographic work.
The sculptures in the Souvenirs.05 series were developed in 2023 at the Haus der Kunst in Palermo, during the Artist in Residence of the Kunstverein DP. They are abstract sculptures made of materials found on-site, combined with objects from my archive. Thus, the selection of materials for Souvenirs.05 happens partly by chance. In contrast, the process of combining the different elements is meticulous.
How does the assembling process work? Do shapes need to be painted or modified? From which bodies, colour contrast, and materials should the sculptures be made to create a harmonious ensemble?
The creative process, guided by these questions and my technical expertise, allows for the transformation of everyday objects into abstract artworks. Souvenirs open up spaces for thought, question the potential of materials, and offer a wide range of associative possibilities.
